Ornette Coleman, Live in Wellington

Still hard to believe that I actually witnessed this. One of the highlights was the band taking to the prelude from Bach's Cello Suite in free jazz fashion - completely unexpected and completely amazing, a sustained mesmeric curtain of sound. I spent most of the concert wrapped in a synaesthetic state of colors and wafting shapes.

Ornette Coleman and band
Playing Lonely Woman as the encore was even better than I could have hoped. Words can’t really describe the sublime atmosphere. I know it’s not everyone’s type of music, but for me, it was close to the pinnacle.
