Welcome back
We were going through the barbed wire when a machine gun started. I kept walking until I saw my head lying on the ground. “My god I’m dead” my head said. And my body fell over.
Norman Mailer - The Shortest Novel in the World
The first steps towards the further realization of the maetl carrier came with the recognition of the different strands of my current research. My initial approach to designing this site involved a category based schema, with subjects, topics, sections, all nicely arranged and structured. The problem was that once I started writing, I realised that most of the things I wanted to post had little or nothing to do with the categories I had laid out. I just wanted to publish what I was writing, not exhaustively catalog everything.
Well, maybe I still want to do that as well, but I can't see it happening. The alternative was to use a classic blog based calendar archive, but I still have doubts about treating this site strictly as a blog. I prefer to call it a journal, whatever that means. What I needed was a small set of broader themes, a focus on active research rather than archiving or categorizing. To that end, I have started reorganizing this site to be better able to document the ongoing research projects I'm working on, both technical, and hyperstitial. So do check in from time to time - see how I'm getting on.
