Meine Hübsche Fliegen

Living in Auckland... Well, it's all happened with such rapidity that I'm still trying to catch up with myself. Leaving Wellington feels like an intense break-up with a lover, and it hasn't been easy, but it was a necessary step for various reasons.

I was starting to feel like I was growing roots, clawing deeper into the earth, and things were becoming so stale and static, that I needed some fresh energy. Working at Silverstripe was great for a time, but I didn't feel like it was developing in a way that was helping my other creative plans, so I made an abrupt decision to tear things down and start afresh and decided to look for new opportunities in the land of Bucklame. Partly, being here will keep me out of trouble long enough to get some decent writing done and give me a bit more time and space to follow through on various creative projects that I felt were falling by the wayside in recent months.
I came to the conclusion that I simply cannot operate effectively on a full-time workaday schedule. I know that in 20-30 hours a week, I can usually achieve most of what I would accomplish in 40 hours anyway, and it becomes demoralizing and draining for me to have to stretch myself over these extra hours. Thankfully, I have found a small, company that is supportive of my skills and temperament and I've just started ongoing work with them. Pixel Fusion is based in Parnell, and fits directly into the design-technology space where I operate best. Not the most high-flying and glamorous work, but it is positive and rewarding experience to work with a multi-talented team where things are fast moving and constantly changing.
Living in Auckland is an interesting change - one way of describing it is a phase of somewhat self-imposed creative isolation. I may have more to say on that in a future post. For the time being, I am just trying to tidy up various loose ends as effectively as I can, so I can find a good tempo and rhythm to start publishing more of my work online.
